Civil service evidence of age I Archibald Godfrey Hope of Thames Ditton in the County of Surrey Esquire Do Solemnly and sincerely declare That I am now of the age of twenty six years and am an elder Brother of Lewis Anstruther Hope named in the extract from the Register of Baptisms kept at St George's Cathedral Madras hereto annexed and marked A. I say that I and the said Lewis Anstruther Hope were both born in India and that I verily believe the said Lewis Anstruther Hope was born on or about the 4th November 1855. That we are Children of Archibald Hugh Hope now in India and that my Father is the Colonel of the 5th Regiment of Madras Cavalry and that my Mother is resident at Versailles - France. That the said paper writing hereto annexed was as I verily believe procured by one of my parents but I am unable to say whether by my Father or my Mother from the Register of Baptisms kept at the Cathedral of Madras aforesaid and that I verily believe the same to be a true extract so far as relates to the baptism of my said Brother. And that the signature thereto "Charles D Gibson is the true signature of The Reverend Charles D Gibson the Cathedral Chaplain And I make this solemn declaration conscientiously believing the same to be true and by virtue of the provisions of an Act made and passed in the sixth year of the reign of the late Majesty intituled "An Act to repeal an Act of the present Session of parliament intituled 'An Act for the more effectual abolition of Oaths and Affirmations taken and made in various departments of the State and to substitute declarations in lieu thereof and for the more entire suppression of voluntary and extra judicial Oaths and Affirmations' and to make other provisions for the abolition of unnecessary Oaths" [Unterschrift A.
